Jenn Mueller Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to Hospitality Management students in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Colorado State University. The work Jenn loved, done by people just getting started at it.

Every recipient writes about three things: where they come from, what they are chasing, and what the money changed. Those pieces existed only as scanned paper until now. Here they are, readable.

    Christopher Begay

    Junior · Hospitality Management · minor in Business Administration

    Farmington, New Mexico · Colorado State University

    “Being a creative individual was always in my blood. I wanted that life of getting the logistics of working for a party down flawlessly. Hospitality Management has opened that door for me.”

    A member of the Navajo Nation, Christopher returned to school for a second degree after the pandemic cost him his hotel job. He plans to start an event management and wedding planning business on the Navajo Reservation.

  • 2020–2021

    Taylor Paradise

    Junior · Hospitality Management

    Denver, Colorado · Colorado State University

    “My goal is to leave a positive impact on as many people’s lives as possible by helping them plan a memorable event, no matter the occasion.”

    Taylor transferred to CSU after her first year elsewhere didn’t fit, and found her footing in event planning. She dreams of becoming a wedding planner.

    Kaitlin K. Dailey

    Sophomore · Hospitality Management · minor in Business Administration

    Superior, Colorado · Colorado State University

    “I knew I wanted to be a part of this industry, even if not as an event planner, to allow others to have full, authentic experiences that they can embrace entirely.”

    Kaitlin fell in love with event planning while working as a banquet server, and now independently coordinates friends’ weddings alongside her studies.

    Renee Alderman

    Sophomore · Hospitality Management

    Ohio, by way of Colorado · Colorado State University

    “I am already learning how to run a restaurant on my own at just 18 years old, and I’m having so much fun learning new things about hospitality every day.”

    Raised driving tractors in the Ohio countryside and a nine-year flute player who became her high school’s drum major, Renee wants to work in event planning around the world.

About the award

Why hospitality

The scholarship sits with the College of Health and Human Sciences at Colorado State University and goes to students in Hospitality Management: the people who will spend their careers planning weddings, running restaurants and putting on the kind of celebrations Jenn believed were the point of being alive.

It is funded entirely by the Jennifer Mueller Memorial Foundation, which means the 5K, the raffle, the sponsors, and people who give directly.
